i wish i were a mascot
Tuesday, April 17th, 2007i want to be a mascot oh yes i do,
well not those little mascots on your tee’s
but a big big mascot, or medium sized too..
oh yes oh yes a mascot i’d like to be!
i wanna be the man in the mascot suit
big black and hairy, with a theme song to toot
winnie the pooh? maybe tigger will do
with that springy little tail laughing double-dee-do
always laughing always smiling, huggable and fun
always posing, never tearing, never having to run
kids love them, gals adore them, they make babies smile
oh my, oh why, just to be that for a while
maybe larry of veggie tales, with all his silly songs
or peter pan, of neverland letting everyone fly along
imagine that, a cat in the hat, and magic all around
it’s not fantasy, it’s reality! making children feel safe and sound
the inner child, so young and wild, yet still feeling pretty shy
needs an outer shell, that’s not meek and mild, and yet can be pretty sly
a mascot gives, what the child needs, a mask to hide behind
with a new facade, a happy heart, truly can unwind
the inner child, is trapped within, without the mascot’s body
of fear, rejection, or being labelled plain silly,
to live a life, molded and modeled, on the wants of our society
prim and proper, disciplined and distinguished, without being too wily
oh my, oh why, what fun would it be
to be a mascot, to play all day long and be a jollibee
no reason to laugh, no reason for joy, just that’s the way it is
no worries, no doubts, no turning about, no eating all your peas
and yet again, it seems we’re all, mascots of our own
the mask we wear, for others to stare, often is a frown
the shield we have, not shiny nor bright, is really quite a sore
for in being a mascot, what we truly display- is a mascot called eeyore
